Let's admit it, every one of us has snored even once in our lives. Even babies snore but it?s most frequent in men (about 45% of the world's population) while 30% of women are also snorers. However, there has to be a demarcation line between mild snoring to habitual or excessive snoring. Little babies may tend to snore because their nasal passages aren't mature enough yet; they also haven't learned to swallow excessive secretions in their throat that makes them produce the snoring sound. It is also normal for pregnant women to snore especially at the later stages of pregnancy. Snoring at a certain position is also normal. Drunken individuals also tend to snore in their sleeps.

However, if snoring occurs every night, and becomes so loud (up to 80-90 decibels) that the person in the other room, or even the person snoring, can hear the sound, it might already be excessive snoring. Excessive snoring is generally caused by an obstruction in the air passage and various reasons initiate this. Heredity may be one cause of snoring by inheriting a narrow throat. Obesity is another cause of snoring as obese people have fats accumulated around their necks narrowing their air passage.

Also, when people age the tongue and throat muscles tend to become flabby. This causes the tongue to fall backwards during sleep or the throat muscles to narrow in. Snoring is a common occurrence for men because they have narrower air passages than women. Medications, alcohol, and smoking are also some of the culprits in snoring.

Excessive snoring leads to, or could be a symptom of, some serious health problems. Excessive snoring in most cases has been associated with more serious health problems such as hypertension, cardiovascular diseases, stroke, and sleep apnea. Apnea means "want of breath" and a person in this condition actually stops breathing for 10-30 seconds and at several times over the night.

Sleep apnea is a life threatening condition. A person suffering from sleep apnea becomes less productive during the day due to sleep deprivation. Being deprived from a sound sleep results to fatigue, irritability, daytime sleepiness, morning headaches, obesity, poor mental and emotional health, poor short-term memory, lack of concentration, severe mood swings, and a slower reaction time.

Furthermore, if sleep apnea progresses, the person in this condition may suffer chest pains, high blood pressure, hypertension, stroke, type II diabetes, and choking or premature death.

Others may consider excessive snoring as harmless and may tend to make a joke out of it. However, it is always best to find a cure for it early on before it becomes a life-threatening condition.

Snoring has been linked to some life-threatening illnesses like hypertension, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases. Many studies have reached to similar conclusions. Researchers have associated sleep and oxygen deprivation in snoring to these illnesses. Snoring also has its anti-social impacts and could aggravate an already shaky relationship.

The snoring sound is produced by the flapping of the soft tissues in the air passage. The factors that cause snoring are as simple as a cold and relaxed neck muscles during the night or such anatomical abnormalities as enlarged tonsils and adenoids, or thicker soft palate. The tongue sometimes plays a role in snoring especially in, but not limited to, older people in which the tongue becomes soft and flabby and tends to fall backwards in sleeping positions. In this case, you might need a snoring oral appliance.

A snoring oral appliance is the use of a device (like an orthodontic retainer) fitted in a patient's mouth and pushes the lower jaw so that the air passage is widened or opened. Snoring oral appliances come in varying designs but all are designed for a certain purpose and that is to open the air passage to facilitate better breathing at night.

A snoring oral appliance usually consists of two formings and is inserted into the back of the mouth holding the upper and lower jaw. Other snoring oral appliance works by gently pushing the lower jaw forward to create a wider opening and avoid obstructions. There is a type of snoring oral appliance that has a tongue sleeve that holds the tongue and sucks it to a position that it unblocks the throat opening.

Another type of oral snoring appliance works by actually moving all that contribute to snoring: the lower jaw, tongue, soft palate, and hyoid bone to a position that creates a wider opening to improve breathing. As old as snoring itself, the principle used in snoring oral appliance came from a 1930 patent of the first snoring oral appliance that kept the lower jaw forward to open the airway. Still used in selected cases today, the Tongue Retaining Device was first developed in 1980.

Since a snoring oral appliance is now widely used in the treatment of snoring and sleep apnea, the medical society is looking forward to more practitioners to provide adept services. The snoring oral appliance is more personalized and easily tolerated by patients because it is worn just like an orthodontic retainer or mouth guard. The snoring oral device, in most cases, can provide relief and treat snoring and sleep apnea. However, in severe cases, a patient might want to opt for other types of treatment such as homeopathic remedies or surgery.

Let's Get Serious with the Snoring Solution

You are not alone. Snoring is a global problem. It affects 45 percent of the people in countries around the world majority of whom are men. Women and little children also snore. While many tend to neglect this condition and see it as a mere nuisance, snoring with or without sleep apnea presents a life-threatening risk. Essentially, snoring is attributed to cardiovascular diseases, high blood pressure, and hypertension. For pregnant women, it can cause retardation in the growth of the unborn child as well as in little children.

Snoring is primarily a result of an obstruction in the air passage

Snoring can be classified as mild and excessive. In mild cases of snoring, this snoring solution may be able to help. If you snore while lying on your back then practice sleeping on your side. This would help you breath better.

Substances known to hold off mucus (that triggers snoring) from draining are fatty dairy products while sleeping pills and other sedatives have components that relax the muscle tone in the neck that results to flabby and collapsing soft tissues (these triggers vibrations as well). Aside from the physical and cardiovascular benefits of having a regular exercise, it can also be a snoring solution.

Finding a snoring solution depends on the actual cause of your snoring. Most orthodontists who are capable of "curing" snoring may advice the use of orthodontic appliances. The purpose of most of these oral appliances is to create a wider opening in the throat by gently pushing the tongue or the lower jaw forward. It might seem bulky but orthodontic appliances do work in some cases.

Continued positive airway pressure (CPAP) is the most popular medical snoring solution. This device uses a head mask worn against a patient's nose and a tube leading to the mask is connected to a mechanism. This mechanism blows air directly into the patient's throat to ward off any obstruction. So far, this is the most successful snoring solution used by doctors.

Surgery is probably the last snoring solution you might want to engage in because it is expensive, risky, and has lifetime side effects. It involves correcting any obstruction by removing some parts in soft palate, enlarged tonsils and adenoids, and the uvula (the soft tissue hanging at the back of the mouth).

A snoring solution should begin at home where it is inexpensive and safe. However, we know how serious a thing snoring is. It?s best to find a snoring solution before your snoring complicates to anything worse.

Bigger than a Snore: Snoring Treatment

Snoring treatment is more than just nudging your partner to make him stop snoring for a few minutes. But then the loud vibratory sound comes back again disrupting your sleep or makes you head to the other room or couch to get some decent sleep.

Although snoring is common, this condition can strain relationships and complicate to sleep apnea, a sleeping disorder characterized by a pause in breathing for a minimum of 10 seconds several times in one night, and in turn can lead to other serious health problems like hypertension, high blood pressure, heart ailments, and stroke according to recent studies.

Various factors contribute to snoring

The following factors can trigger snoring. These include irregularities in the anatomy of the air passages and the throat. Enlarged tonsils and adenoids can create a blockage in the throat. Likewise, an elongated uvula (the soft tissue hanging from the soft palate) is also a factor in blocking the airflow leading to increased vibration. Surgery might be a snoring treatment for these. An obese person has the tendency to snore because the fats around the neck narrow the air passage obstructing the free flow of air.

A full meal, alcohol and sedatives initiate snoring because they relax the muscles around the throat, including the tongue those behind the soft palate, causing them to collapse and create a blockade. As a snoring treatment, doctors advise avoiding the consumption of these 3 hours before going to bed.

Irregularities in the nose's cartilage, such as a deviated septum, also contributes in obstructing the airflow and lead to snoring. Snoring treatment may be surgery to correct this problem.

Snoring treatment

Before finding a snoring treatment, understanding the causes of snoring would be helpful in deciding what time of snoring treatment to use. Your doctor can examine you to evaluate at what part of your air passage needs treatment or refer you to an otolaryngologist. At this point, snoring treatment would range from oral appliances, traditional surgery, laser surgery, somnoplasty, to CPAP (continuous postive airway pressure.

CPAP is the most popular snoring treatment these days because it's non-invasive and safe. Traditional or laser surgery is not recommended as a snoring treatment for patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) as it could aggravate their conditions. Oral appliances work by gently advancing you lower jaw or tongue forward to create a wider opening in the air throat.

These home snoring treatments might also help in reducing the incidence of snoring. Lose weight, if you are overweight, because fats can add to bulk in the throat or thick soft palate. Sleeping at a certain position, like at your sides, prevents your tongue from falling backward and helps you breath better. Nasal Strips are adhesive strips placed on your nose to rid of obstructions and enhance breathing.

More Than Just a Nuisance, It's a Health Problem - Snoring Women

While majority of the world's population are led to think that snoring is a problem exclusively of men, recent studies show that 19% of women snore. In addition, a snoring woman is just as susceptible as developing similar complications experienced by men, including sleep apnea. Sleep apnea results in sleepiness and fatigue during daytime.

A snoring woman is associated with developing high blood pressure and other cardio-vascular disease. Snoring during pregnancy is also related to high blood pressure. At this period, a snoring woman is at risk of developing a more serious problem called pre-eclampsia. A snoring woman with pre-eclampsia develops swelling of and elevated blood pressure as well as having protein in the urine during pregnancy. Obstetricians and gynecologists usually order urinalysis to be performed during the stages in pregnancy to detect if protein is present in the urine.

Additionally, other elements contribute to high blood pressure in women that result to snoring. The rise of women smokers, weight, sleeping on backs, high cholesterol, hormones, and oral contraceptives are some of the known suspects. If snoring becomes excessive in women, medical advice should be sought. Hypertension and heart disease may complicate as a result to the reduction of oxygen in the blood.

Medical attention is necessary especially for pregnant women. High blood pressure usually occurs during pregnancy because women at this stage generally put up some weight to compensate the growth of the fetus. More so, breathing during pregnancy is affected by the pressure taken on the diaphragm as the uterus enlarges to accommodate the growing baby. The reduced oxygen in the blood in pregnant women may be damaging to the fetus' development especially the nervous system. Oxygen is an extremely vital to the developing baby and a lack of it may be one of the causes of growth retardation or even mortality. A snoring woman tended to give birth to infants with lower birth weights and Apgar (heart rate, breathing, muscle tone, reflex, and color) scores.

Another study, on the other hand, concluded that a snoring woman is associated with having a high body mass index (BMI) and also depended on her age. Depending on the BMI, other risk factors include alcohol dependence in lean women who reportedly snored as well as physical inactivity. This study showed the heavier a woman is, the more she becomes a snoring woman. Moreover, the study concluded that snoring in women peaked between the ages 50-59.

A snoring woman is more than just a nuisance, health problems could already be involved so that it's best to visit a health professional early on.

Laser Surgery for Snoring

Approximately 45 percent of the adult population in the world snores at least occasionally, while 25 percent are chronic snorers. Women and little children also snore at some point although this condition is most frequent in men and obese people and becomes worse with age. The vibratory sound, we call snoring, is produced when the free flow of air passing the air passage is obstructed and vibrates against the soft tissues on the nose and the throat area. Previously regarded as a mere nuisance, snoring has been recently associated with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and Upper Airway Resistance Syndrom (UARS), as well as illnesses like hypertension, high blood pressure, and cardiovascular diseases.

With the recent findings, snorers have become conscious of their condition and desperate in looking for cures to their snoring problems. In 1990, patients who became frustrated with the home remedies, orthodontic appliances, and Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to cure snoring agreed to undergo the Laser-Assisted Uvula Palatoplasty (LAUP).

LAUP uses laser surgery for snoring and mild OSA by vaporizing the uvula and a part of the soft palate in a series of non-invasive procedures. Patients undergoing laser surgery for snoring are treated with a local anesthesia in an outpatient operation. Once the anesthesia takes effect, the doctor administers a CO2 laser to make two vertical incisions in the soft palate on each side of the uvula shortening it to eliminate that, which causes the obstruction. It takes five clinic visits each spaced four to eight weeks apart for the laser surgery for snoring to complete.

How long is the recovery period?

Most patients are able to get back to their daily routines on the same day although the patients are warned of a sensation similar to that of a sever sore throat that lasts up to ten days after the laser surgery for snoring. This can be relieved by analgesics and anti-inflammatory medicines.

Patients who received LAUP treatment reported 90% improvement in lessening the incidence of snoring and sleap apnea episodes. However, the problem arises in the scarring of the soft tissues of the palate that resulted in more obstruction and worsened OSA after a year or two. Statistics noted that only a third of those treated with the laser surgery for snoring were deemed a success.

Should you get LAUP treatment?

If you've tried all possible remedies for snoring and have been unsuccessful, and if your snoring is disruptive to others around you including you, then you could be a candidate. Prior to undergoing laser surgery for snoring, your otoralaryngologist will examine you to evaluate what's causing you to snore.

Laser surgery for snoring is not widely practiced yet but doctors are considering this treatment if everything else, including the continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), fails. Like any other surgical treatments for surgery, you just have to be ready for its consequences vis-?-vis your snoring.

It is a fact. Nowadays, it seems that women are involved in what previously were issues exclusively about men ? this includes snoring. With this, a number of snoring cures have sprouted in the market as well as tips to cure snoring problems, with some having no actual medical relevance. Snoring deserves to be given full attention, as it could already be a sign of a health problem as much as it is an issue between couples. Finding tips to cure snoring problems can likewise result in a better quality of you life, including your loved ones. When snoring has not complicated to sleep apnea, these self-help tips to cure snoring problems may prove useful.

One cause of snoring is weight. Many studies have found that the heavier a person is, the more he snores because soft tissues block the air passage. Losing weight not only decreases your risk of developing diseases related to obesity, it helps reduce the fatty tissues that are blocking your airway, thus, allowing you to have better quality sleeps.

Sleeping positions also account to snoring. Sleeping on your backs causes the soft tissues on the throat to relax, making you produce the snoring sound. Changing your sleeping position effects better breathing and can alleviate snoring (but severe snorers almost always snore at any position). To achieve these tips to cure snoring problems, special pillows (available in the market) may be used. You can also do the tennis ball trick: attach a tennis ball or any ball using a sock at the back of your pajamas on the waistline. This forces you to avoid lying on your back. Soon you'll get used to sleeping on your side.

Sleeping without a pillow could also help cease snoring because it puts the neck to a flat position avoiding the neck to bend and keeping the airways unblocked. Elevating the head of your bed to about four inches may also help you breath easier as it encourages your tongue and jaw to push forward, clearing your airway. This is unlike putting a pillow beneath your head because this elevates your whole upper body.

Smoking is also associated with snoring. Aside from the benefits you get by avoiding smoking and second hand smoke, or eliminating them altogether, this reduces the intensity of the snoring sound.

Avoid or limit your food, alcohol, antihistamines, sleeping pills, and other sedatives intake before going to bed because these relax your neck muscles. It is best to avoid these within three hours before bed. Also, full cream dairy products or soymilk products can possibly minimize the mucus from being drained, and mucus retained in the throat can cause snoring.

These tips to cure snoring problems might be able to help in lessening your likelihood to snore at night. Additionally, there are products available over the counter that can possibly cure snoring. However, as mentioned, snoring may just be a symptom of a more serious problem so that it's best to seek medical advice from a health professional.

Why Snoring Surgery May Not Be the Best Option

While certain types of surgery may indeed reduce or eliminate snoring, it may not always be the best option for a variety of reasons. Any type of surgery carries a certain amount of risk, and for this reason alone it should be used as a last resort.

Before choosing surgery as an option, all other possibilities should have been exhausted. There are many possible reasons for why a person may snore, all with different possible solutions. Some causes of snoring are obesity, alcohol, snoring, and sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a serious condition which can cause heart problems for the individual.

A good reason to consider whether or not surgery is necessary is the fact that it is never 100% successful. Is it worth the risk for something which may or may not work? Of course you should discuss success rates for your particular situation with your doctor, but keep in mind that surgery is never a guarantee.

Obviously some situations require surgery. For instance, if your snoring is being cause by a foreign obstruction such as a tumor surgery is most certainly the answer. Some snoring is also caused by an excess of tissue which can be removed via a surgical procedure. However, these cases are not that common and snoring is usually caused by lifestyle rather than anatomy.

Most doctors will discourage surgery as a cure for snoring until you have determined what the cause is. For instance, if your snoring is caused by alcohol, no surgery is going to change the fact that your throat muscles relax when you?ve had a few drinks before bedtime. The solution is simple: stop drinking.

Changing your lifestyle may be the simplest answer when it comes to how to stop snoring. It is important that you look at your personal habits and how you eat and exercise. Before you think surgery is the answer, try making some changes in your day to day life and you may find your snoring disappears.

What causes snoring?

When you go to sleep, the muscles in your body relax and recharge. The muscles in your throat are no different. As you slumber, the air pathways in your throat are constricted by muscle relaxation. It's normal to have smaller breathing lanes during periods of sleep.

When these constricted air passages are met with additional obstructions, snoring happens. As air flows through your nose and throat, tissue obstructions can increase vibrations of the soft palate, the tonsils, the throat and the uvula. Over-the-counter snoring aids like Snorenz try to inhibit constricted breathing. Snorenz uses all-natural oils to coat your air passages before you go to sleep. When you spray Snorenz in the back of your throat, you can reduce the disturbing sounds of snoring.

Nasal obstructions can also be the root cause of snoring problems. Sinus disease, nasal polyps or a deviated septum might be what's causing all the trouble. Check with your doctor if you have nasal issues. Surgeries can be performed that will clear out excess soft tissue and allow you to breathe better at night.

Other factors also contribute to snoring. If you're overweight, over 50 and you like to drink and smoke, then chances are youre a snorer. You can make adjustments to these behavioral contributors, but if medical treatment is required, don't postpone the decision to seek help. Snoring may be a sign of a more pressing health concern, so be sure you know what you???re dealing with.

When is snoring a problem?

-If you constantly disturb others with the volume of your snoring, then you have a problem.

-If you can't sleep properly because of your snoring habits, then you might want to consult a doctor.

-If you cannot breathe properly at night, then your snoring can adversely affect your health.

If you snore violently, you may have a more serious condition known as sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is characterized by unusually loud snoring and frequent gasps for air. Some sleep apnea sufferers are awakened by the fact that their air pathways have completely closed. This prevents proper oxygen flow and it can lead to fatigue, memory loss, high blood pressure, strokes and heart disease. If you experience snoring and any type of respiratory concern, then you need to get yourself checked out by a doctor immediately. Sleep apnea is treatable, but it can be life-threatening if you ignore the issue. If you have to wake up in order to start breathing again, then you need treatment.

Snoring Problems: When To Seek Medical Advice

Snoring is more than just a nuisance. It's a major health concern. If you snore uncontrollably then you need to seek medical advice.

What is snoring?

When you sleep at night, all of the muscles in your body relax. During the day, you effortlessly breath in oxygen through your mouth and nose, but at night, the muscles in the back of your mouth and throat relax, and the result is that your air passages are more constricted. As you breath in air at night, there's less open real estate in your airways. When oxygen flows through your throat, the soft palate, tongue and uvula all vibrate against each other. The result is the unpopular snoring sound.

Light snoring can be treated with over-the-counter remedies and basic changes in lifestyle. Snorenz is a throat spray that lubricates the soft tissue areas in the back of your throat. Using natural oils, Snorenz helps avoid the disruptive snoring sound that accompanies constricted air pathways.

In addition to Snorenz, there are also lifestyle changes that can be made that will reduce the severity of your snoring condition. Avoid drinking alcohol, especially late at night. Alcohol relaxes the soft palate (the tissue at the roof of your mouth), and can contribute to snoring sounds. Cigarette smoke causes congestion and can also restrict your airways, and worsen your snoring problem. If you sleep with fluffy pillows, your neck can be tilted in such a way as to make snoring more likely. If you sleep exclusively on your back, then you increase the likelihood of snoring. Try sleeping on your side so that your jaw doesn't hang open. Allergies congestion and allergy medication can also cause you to snore more than you like.

If you're snoring problem is causing you or others to lose lots of sleep, then it's time to seek medical advice. If you snore so loud and violently that you disturb every member of your household, then it's time to see a doctor. If you find yourself gasping for air in the middle of the night, then a doctor visit needs to be scheduled immediately.

Sleep apnea is the condition caused by completely restricted air passages. The tissues at the back of your throat can collapse and prevent breathing. Sleep apnea sufferers can have their normal breathing pattern interrupted up to 100 times at night. When your oxygen is cut off while you sleep, dangerous things can happen. You run the risk of stroke, high blood pressure, heart disease and hypertension. Don't let these types of serious snoring issues go untreated. If you can't breath properly at night, then seek medical help as soon as possible.

Factors That Lead To Snoring Problems

Some of the risk factors associated with snoring include:

Being male

Males are more likely to snore because they have more restricted airways than females do. Guys, next time your woman complains about your snoring, blame it on your gender!

Being overweight

People who have excessive amounts of soft tissue in their throats are also at risk. The more meat you have around your neck, the smaller your throat will be. This can inhibit air flow and contribute to snoring.

Having a history of smoking

If you smoke, you can face increased congestion levels in your nose and lungs. Smoking also relaxes your muscles which can cause further blockage and snoring.

Being middle-aged or older

The older you get, the more narrow your throat becomes. This is why older people are more prone to snoring.

Having nasal deformities and obstructions

If you have structural issues like a deviated septum or obstruction issues like nasal polyps, you are much more likely to snore

Having a large uvula, large tongue, large soft palate or large tonsils

The more soft tissue you have back in your throat, the more you going to snore. Enlarged tissue structures only serve to worsen restriction and increase vibration. This makes you snore louder.

Sleeping on your back or sleeping with super-squishy pillows.

When you sleep on your back you increase the likelihood of your jaw opening. This open mouth effect can lead to more restrictive airways. If you sleep with a bunch of soft pillows, you can place your neck at strange angles. This also restricts airways and increases your risks of snoring.

Taking sleeping pills and sedatives

If you're thinking about taking sleeping pills to get over your snoring---think again. Sleeping pills and sedatives relax your muscles and your neck. This causes more constriction. Which in turn leads to more snoring.

What do you do about it?

If your snoring issues are light, then you can try to adjust your sleeping habits and reduce your risks. You can also use over-the-counter remedies like Snorenez. Snorenz is a throat spray that delivers a quick-acting sleep aid. Using Snorenz can help you find relief, but if your snoring is more severe, then you need to seek out medical attention. There are surgeries, anti-snoring devices and other treatments that can help you deal with serious snoring and obstructive breathing issues like sleep apnea. Sleep apnea can be life-threatening, so if you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night gasping for air, then a trip to the doctor is a must. Don't let your condition go untreated - get the help you need!

Five Common Causes Of Snoring

Snoring is caused by all sorts of things. Here are five of the most common causes:

Sleep Apnea

Sleep Apnea is a serious condition. If you snore violently, sleep apnea may be the root cause. Obstructive sleep apnea is the result of super-constricted air pathways. When you snore, the soft tissue structures in your throat can obstruct your oxygen intake. When these flappy tissues prevent you from breathing, you have sleep apnea. Sleep apnea sufferers can wake themselves up multiple times a night in an effort to breathe again. Sleep apnea isn't a condition that you should ignore. If you snore loudly, gasp for air or wake up frequently in the night, then your snoring isn't mild, it's dangerous. Sleep Apnea requires serious medical attention, so if you suspect that you suffer from this ailment, get help right away.

Alcohol

Alcohol consumption (especially of a late-night variety) can cause you to snore more than you'd like. Alcohol relaxes the soft palate and constricts your breathing at night. If you have existing snoring issues, then you don't want to exacerbate them by drinking before you go to bed.

Sleeping on your back

If you sleep on your back, it can cause you to open your mouth as you rest. When you're in this position, your lower jaw drops and hangs open. This can cause constricted airways and complicate your existing snoring condition.

Sleeping Pills, sedatives and antihistamines

Sleeping pills, sedatives and antihistamines all contribute to snoring. These things cause your neck and throat muscles to relax. If your goal is to avoid constricted breathing at night, then you need to avoid these snore-inducing remedies.

Smoking

Smoking can cause congestion in your nose and lungs. This congestion can clog up breathing lanes, making you more susceptible to snoring issues.

Don't drink, smoke, take sedatives, sleeping pills or allergy medication before you sleep. Try sleeping on your side so that your throat-flesh doesn't inhibit your air intake. Use chin straps to keep your mouth closed. Try a fitted mouthpiece that can open up you airways.

If your snoring problems are acute, then over-the-counter throat sprays like Snorenz can help. Snorenz sprays natural oils into your throat. This lubricates your tissue structures and prevents them form flapping together. If your symptoms are more serious, then Snorenz isn't going to be enough. Here's a list of some effective snoring devices.

Nose Strips

If nasal constriction is the root of your snoring problem, then try using nose strips. Nose strips are fitted with flexible material. The goal of the nose strip is to expand your nostrils so that more air can pass through as you breathe.

Plastic Nostril Devices

These work the same way as nose strips. Plastic nostril devices are inserted into your nose. The aim is to increase nasal air supply so that you don't have to open your mouth to breathe.

Chin strap

If you're snoring issues are caused by open-mouth sleeping, then consider using a chin strap. Chin straps wrap around your jaw and prevent you from sleeping with your mouth wide open. When you sleep with an open mouth, you put unnecessary pressure on your throat. This constricts normal oxygen flow, and contributes to snoring problems. The chin strap might take some getting used to, but it can offer some relief.

Mouth Piece

If you visit your dentist, you can get fashioned with a custom mouth piece that'll help you breathe better at night. The mouth piece helps jut your lower jaw forward (think of Bill Cowher, head coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers), and this can make it easier for you to breathe clearly while you sleep.

Throat spray

Over-the-counter treatments like Snorenz, can be used to combat acute snoring symptoms. Snorenz is an easy to use throat spray. The Snorenz formula contains natural oils that lubricate the soft tissues in your throat. This lubrication effect makes night-time breathing less constricting and less noisy.

For more serious cases of snoring, surgery may be needed. If you have nasal polyps or other obstructions, you'll need to get them removed. A deviated septum needs to be fixed by surgery. Sometimes it helps to have your tonsils removed as well. You can also have your uvula stripped. This procedure causes the uvula to scar and stiffen. That way it doesn't flap around uncontrollably as you sleep. Snoreplasty is a procedure that involves an injection in the soft palate. The injection is intended to stiffen the small palate, which in turn makes night time breathing easier. A somnoplasty will use a radio frequency generator to shrink the inner tissues of your throat. This can also make it easier to breath at night.

Snoring is a nuisance that can and must be dealt with. Just make sure you know what you're dealing with so that you can select the anti-snoring treatment that's tailored to your individual snoring troubles. When you're deciding upon a specific device, make sure that it's safe, comfortable and effective.

Cure For Snoring Desperately Needed To Save Our Marriage!

Now you might laugh at this, but one morning I awoke to what I thought was road works going on just outside the bedroom window. I should have been so lucky! It was my new wife, snoring like a darn jack hammer. Honestly, I had never heard anything like it in my life. In fact it was so infuriating, I had to wake her up to shut her up. This went on for some weeks after that first bout, and it was literally doing my head in. If anyone ever needed a cure for snoring it was her, or should that be me, as it didn't seem to worry her all that much! For the sake of our marriage, this had to stop and stop soon.

The funny thing is that her snoring just started from nowhere and for no apparent reason. She denied she snored of course, like so many of these midnight snorters do, so I had to record the retched noise for proof. She still thought I was having her on, so I borrowed my brother's digital camcorder, and this time there was no denying the fact. Even she was horrified by the playback and was more than happy seek a cure for snoring as soon as possible.

The first thing we discovered was that snoring is in actual fact a medical condition. Apparently, boozers are more likely to snore because the alcohol relaxes the muscles at the back of their throats. Some sleep medications can have the same effect too, which kind of made sense in our case as my wife had recently gone onto sleeping pills after a major falling out with her sister.

We also discovered that large tonsils or a stuffed up nose are responsible for bedtime snarling and snorting noises. With the latter, the snorer is likely to be louder in the summer months as there are many irritating airborne particles which means that hay fever sufferers are particularly vulnerable.

But get this! Did you know that overweight and idle people are more likely to snore than slender active beings? It's true, well according to the Doc anyway. He said he has cured many snoring problems by getting fat people to slim down and take regular exercise. Also, by dropping off to sleep on you side as opposed to your back is said to work with some folks. It was explained to us that this can be achieved by simply propping a pillow behind you before you nod off as it will help stop you from rolling over onto your side.

So excited was I at the thought of getting a good nights sleep after weeks of sleepless hell, that I got this article out as soon as I arrived home while the cures and preventions for snoring were still fresh in my mind. Anything to help fellow sufferers. That's sufferers, not snorers, as they are often quite oblivious as to the restless havoc they cause after dark.

Are There Really Any Effective Tips To Help Me Stop Snoring?

My wife complains that I snore.

I didn?t believe her until she tape-recorded my snoring, and I must admit, it was not a pretty sound. Most people associate snoring with deep sleep, unaware that it is a kind of dysfunction mainly cause by blocked nasal airways.

Statistics reveal that four out of every ten men and three out of every ten women suffer from this form of disorder. The root cause of snoring in most people is the soft palate, which vibrates as a person breathes. When a person sleeps, the muscles in the nose and throat become flaccid, which restricts the airflow in the nasal passage.

This causes the airways to vibrate and produce the typical snoring sound. All of which I discovered when I began seeking tips to help me stop snoring. I also discovered that for the tips to help me stop snoring to work, I needed to make some lifestyle changes.

Lifestyle Changes

The cause of snoring in many people can be traced to their lifestyle, which may include heavy drinking, smoking, taking sleeping tablets, lack of physical exercise and improper sleeping posture.

The tips to help me stop snoring offered by medical experts required me to make the necessary lifestyle changes to put an end to this nagging habit, which disturbed and bothered my wife so much, disrupting her need for rest and sleep.

Accordingly, among the lifestyle changes I had to make was reducing my alcohol intake before sleeping, quitting my chronic smoking habit, taking up some form of physical exercise on a regular basis, and following a fixed routine of sleeping and waking up.

Anyone who makes such lifestyle changes is most likely to witness an improvement in a short time, I was assured.

Sleep posture correction

The tips to help me stop snoring also advised me to sleep in such a posture that did not restrict my nasal passage, enabling the easy flow of air through it.

Sleep posture correction is necessary because medical experts believe that it is the main cause of snoring in most people. By making a few adjustments to the sleeping posture, people can reduce or even get rid of their snoring problem.

Medical research conducted on sleeping people indicates that sleeping on one?s side reduces the amount of noise, whereas sleeping on one?s back increases the sound and frequency of snoring.

Sleep posture correction may also include the use of scientifically designed pillows and mattresses. I realized that selecting the right sleeping posture was probably the cheapest method of curing my snoring.

Other options to quit snoring

During my research on tips to help me stop snoring I also learnt that people who snore could try many other options to quit snoring, such as homeopathic remedies that are available in health food stores and the Internet.

However, it was also advised that people consult a registered medical practitioner before opting for such products. People who want instant relief can use nasal sprays that form a layer of lubricating oil within the airways, allowing the air to move freely.

This may not eliminate the root cause, but will certainly help in reducing the snoring. Other options to quit snoring also include surgical interventions like somnoplasty and coblation, which are procedures that involve piercing the ?soft palate? with a needle connected to a radio frequency machine.

There are also standard surgical procedures such as uvulopalatoplasty, which removes the unnecessary tissues of the soft palate.

I felt positive I could beat my snoring problem by choosing any of the wide selection of techniques available to me. Quitting snoring was necessary for me not only because it disturbed my wife, but also that it could lead to high blood pressure, or give me a heart attack or a stroke.

Discover The Link Between Snoring And Smoking

Most people understand all the potential health hazards associated with smoking. But aside from the commonly known things like cancer, it can also contribute to a snoring problem.

Smokers have a high likelihood of being snorers as well. Smoking causes swelling in the tissue of the nose and throat, as well as damaging the lungs. Nicotine can also cause disruptions in sleep that can contribute to snoring.

A group of European researchers studied snoring in a group of smokers between 25 and 55 years old. They studied 15,000 people from five different countries to see if they could find a link between smoking and snoring.

Out of the study group, 24% of the people who currently smoked and 20% of the people who smoked in the past suffered from snoring problems. This was compared to 14% of the people who did not smoke. They found that the more a person smoked, the louder their snoring.

Second-hand smoke also created a higher likelihood of snoring. 20% of the people who lived with someone who smoked also snored.

Another interesting fact they uncovered was that more men smoked but the female smokers had a higher chance of snoring.

So just what is it about smoking that leads to snoring problems? They didn't come up with a definitive answer to that question, but one of the theories is that the irritation to the airways caused by smoking leads to problem breathing, which in turn leads to snoring.

Another theory is that the body goes through nicotine withdrawal while asleep, which disturbs the sleeping pattern. This disturbance contributes to the snoring.

So you can add one more reason for quitting smoking. Not only does it damage your health and your body, it can lead to snoring problems which can ultimately lead to drowsiness, irritability and stress (in both you and your family).

Finding The Best Stop Snoring Solutions

Everyone wants to know how to find the best stop snoring solutions. Rather than using the trial and error method, which can be both frustrating and very expensive, there are several proven ways that are known to treat or even cure snoring altogether.

If at all possible, it is a good idea to find natural stop snoring solutions as opposed to having to resort to surgery.

There is a very powerful, and proven, natural method to stop snoring. It does not include medicine, doctor visits or invasive surgery. It is, however, doctor recommended.

It offers the sleeper a way to support their jaw comfortably while allowing their mouth to remain closed. Open mouth sleeping is one of the leading causes of snoring, which can be eliminated during the first night of using this product.

Many snoring sufferers find the treatment of allergies to be one of the stop snoring solutions. It is a proven fact that allergies, sinus infections and a cold or the flu may cause various breathing difficulties.

As the nasal passages restrict breathing in the nighttime, snoring often results. In order to minimize the inconvenience naturally while reopening air passages, many individuals find that breathing steam from hot running water helps to ease their breathing.

This is especially helpful if done just before bedtime. In addition, always make sure to have air filtration systems in every room of the home and especially in the bedroom. These units remove an amazing amount of dust and other allergens in the air and will continue to do so as long as the filters are regularly changed.

One of the best ways to treat allergies and other sinus infections is to remove as many allergens from the home as possible, including pet hair, cigarette smoke and dust. By easing allergies, the individual is able to breathe better, the nasal passages become less restricted and snoring is not as problematic.

Another of the top snoring solutions is to simply try sleeping on your side as opposed to your back. Individuals who sleep on their back are more susceptible to snoring because the fatty tissue relaxes against the back of their throat and, again, restricts air intake.

It may be easy to fall asleep on your side, but what if you turn over in the night? If this is a concern, simply place a large body pillow next to you so that you will not easily be able to return to sleeping on your back.

In addition, you may also try a special pillow designed to stop snoring or elevate your head slightly with the use of two standard pillows. This may help breathing and prevent air blockage.

As strange as it may seem, weight loss is among the stop snoring solutions. What does weight have to do with snoring? You may be surprised to learn that individuals who are overweight or have been diagnosed with obesity are more likely to snore. A medically supervised diet and exercise program may be among the stop snoring solutions, but it is also a good idea for overall health.
